Antique guns for sale

Antique guns and assorted antique bits and pieces.

I’m reorganising my collection to concentrate on the kinds of guns that I’m most interested in – currently sporting guns pre 1860, and guns that I can have checked over and put into shooting condition for use on clays and game plus early revolvers – in fact pretty much anything!

I have a number of good, interesting guns and pistols in the condition that I acquired them from my father’s collection. Over the next year or so I am offering them for private sale as collector’s antique guns – please contact me if you are interested in anything in particular.

I have also added a few guns that Dick and I have done some work on but no longer have space in our collections for.

Among the guns that I am selling are the following:-

Please note, the antique guns are Section 58 antiques that may be held without a firearms or shotgun certificate by persons who are not banned for previous convictions.  They are sold as antiques for possession as curios or ornaments under section 58 with no other guarantee.  If you wish to shoot them it is your responsibility to establish their suitability and safety and ensure that you comply with the law.  None of the antique guns listed here are currently held on certificate. Purchasers will be asked to sign a declaration that they are not banned from possessing section 58 firearms.

Modern reproductions require the appropriate certificate and can only change hands in person.

Coming soon:

8 Bore Wildfowl gun – a classic heavy percussion wildfowl gun weighing 12 lbs.  Surface corrosion from use has obscured the maker’s name but its still in fully functioning condition. Heavy rebrowned barrel with reasonable bore.  Looking at it you can almost hear the geese flying overhead and feel the wind in your face!  (£900)

Pair of cased  Belgian percussion pistols – one rifled, one smoothbore, in good restored  condition with nicely refitted (?) case and a vintage powder flask.  (£1500)

Double barreled percussion sporting gun signed J Probin, Strand, London with Birmingham proof marks – barrel shortened to 24 1/4 inches – a basic Birmingham product of the second quarter of the 19th century in reasonable order.   Replacement ramrod. (£525).

Percussion pocket pistol with hexagonal barrel and captive ramrod on stirrup under the barrel.  good quality engraving and in generally very good condition with working action.  Finely chequered butt in good condition with vacant triangular escutcheon. Pedersoli Mortimer reproduction smooth bore shotgun based on a Mortimer rifle- single barrel 12 bore in almost mint condition and hardly fired at all ( probably 10 shots max!) – it has a very attractive light coloured stock and looks fantastic.  This is the standard reproduction arm for competition shooting in the UK.  I decided I only want to shoot originals, and I now have a couple that work, so it reluctantly needs to go to create space.

  1. I have. A Coopers of London 1771 flintlock fowling gun for sale what is the best way to do it
And what is its current value in today

    • Hi Peter,
In terms of value, if you want a rough estimate send me a few photos via my email, see contacts.
Best place to sell – depending on its quality you could advertise it on GUNSTAR website, or consign it to Holts or Bonhams or Southams auctions.
If you send photos I can probably help you with the best place to sell.

  2. 1790 Blunderbuss, replica. Made in Spain. Worth? Not for sale right now. Great shape (I think). Picture available.

    • Hi, If its a Section 2 firearm then it may not be worth as much as you hope as the firearms depts. are getting a bit jumpy about too many guns on a certificate – repros are a bit sticky to shift at the best of times. You can get an original from around £900 plus, 1200 – 2000 a good one at auction
Not having seen it, its difficult to give you an idea, but in the range £150 to £350 at a guess.
      Thanks for your interest.

  3. Hi Colin,

  6. Hello
I am interested in buying the T.Perrins of Worcester percussion ladies/youths fowler percussion gun thats For sale at £350, if you could get back to me asap that would be great, do you deliver to a home address? And is this an active antique in working order?

    Jack Fowler

    • I can send you more photos if you wish. I can post it to you at your address – I will get a price if you email me – see contact page for my email address – tim at the website address. It is a genuine antique of around mid 1800s. It is sold expressly as a curio and thus comes under section 58(2) of the Firearms act and therefore doesn’t need a certificate – I have not tried to shoot it – there is some corrosion on outside of the left barrel in mid length that discouraged me from trying. I therefore have not considered in detail whether it would hypothetically be shootable. Apart from that, it is otherwise in very good working order – the locks function crisply and and it looks good as described – it has been cleaned and restored as per the post. It is very unusual for a Thomas Perrins as the address is just visible as Worcester and he worked at Windsor – I believe this is the only T Perrins with a Worcester address.
